Questions about the recharging process of your portable water softener? Please view this video for an in depth explanation of the process.
Amount of Salt to use:
8000 grain unit - Use one box of salt per recharge
16000 grain unit - Use two boxes of salt per recharge
General Guidelines:
Salt Dosage per Grain Capacity:
Portable water softeners usually use about 0.25 pounds of salt per 1,000 grains of hardness removal capacity.
For a 16,000-grain softener:
16,000 grains × 0.25 lbs/1,000 grains = 4 lbs of salt
Regeneration Cycles:
Smaller softeners often use less salt, and a 2-pound dose may suffice in cases of lower water hardness.
Types of Salt to Use:
We recommend using basic table salt such as Morton's from the grocery store
*Note: It does not matter if the salt is iodized
Other salts will work, but typically have reduced rates of dissolving and results of recharge may vary.
