Some of our filters are cleanable. That is to say, when they get dirty and start to limit water flow, they can be cleaned and reused several times before they need to be replaced. Cleanable filters are limited to pleated polyester and ceramic filters. Carbon filters and resin filters are not cleanable. Below is a list of these filters and directions how to clean them.
PR-1 and PR-5s (A1104, A1105, A2007, A2001)
These filters are pleated polyester sediment filters and resemble hot tub or swimming pool filters. They have the same filtering capability of disposable sediment filters of the same micron rating, and can be cleaned.
When the water flow and pressure start to drop off, remove the filter from the canister. Using a medium strength sprayer or your thumb over the end of a hose, spray between each of the pleats from top to bottom and back until the color stops getting whiter. After all of the pleats have been cleaned, remove any loose particles from the filter with your spray nozzle. This process can be repeated several times over the life of the filter. The filter should be discarded if the flow can't be restored or the material in the filter begins to break down.
Aquacera D-UC and D-ST (A1404 and A1403)
The D-UC (A1404) is the filter that comes with the Ultrapure Premium Drinking water system. It has a ceramic shell and a carbon core. The D-ST is the ceramic shell only. These filters can be cleaned several times before replacing.
To clean these filters, use the green, rough side of a sponge or scotch brite sponge or equivalent. Run under cold water while lightly scrubbing. The filter won't get pure white, but will stay a tan/yellow color. Stop cleaning when the color stabilizes
Doulton RIO 2000 (A2006)
This filter is part of the South of the Border System. It is made of six (6) ceramic candles. To clean them, you should remove each of the candles from the head and wash them individually.
To clean these filters, use the green, rough side of a sponge or scotch brite sponge or equivalent. Run under cold water while lightly scrubbing. The filter won't get pure white, but will stay a tan/yellow color. Stop cleaning when the color stabilizes
